Having seen this project in the flesh, it has inspired me to go ahead with a conversion. What's more I'm going to do it myself, both my project guns have failed because other people who said they were going to do things, just didn't.
I'm bidding on a complete No4 woodwork set on ebay and provided it doesnt go silly on the price, I'll be able to start my build a soon as I get it.

If it does go silly, try this:

Worldwide Arms are also doing SMLE complete magazines for £10,by far the cheapest I could source and considering the differnce in prices close enough to use on a No.4.
D.S.Solutions are also very reasonably priced for both SMLE and No.4 parts ,and have most of the No.4 woodwork quite cheap e.g.£10 for the butt,£8 each for front and rear handguards.
The Gunner also has a lot of the metalwork.
Helston Gunsmiths have a few bits and pieces, but they are worth speaking to as not all their parts are on their site.

I got my SMLE magazine from Henry Krank in Leeds. He didn't have any No4 ones.

Some others there might be of interest too.

Stof can you post a link to those m700 gas mags please, I think you said there were 3 types? I know they sounded a lot cheaper than what I was quoted for Tanaka mags. I also have one of the m700 AICS mags which is much bigger, 27 rounds, and I think I might be able to make it fit into an no4 mag. I've got a couple but the chippy that was working on my one piece vsr stock has got them, as soon as I get them back I'll see if they fit.

Edit, recieved the link thanks Stof. I actually got my mags back this evening and there's no way the big AICS mags will fit into the No4 mag, so it looks like I'll be following Stof's method of conversion and be happy with ten round mags :)

Hey thats an awesome gun :good:

I have been working on the same project and was looking at the gas m700, mainly because it keeps the mag in the right place.
Now I am sure it will work.
Later down the track I will pick your brain on how you did it, if thats alright.

Great work

I'm buying a No4 wood kit from No1sonuk, so I'm going to take the plunge and go for it. When it arrives I'll see how it all lines up, and then spam this thread with loads of questions. I'm hoping to catch up with an engineer this weekend and see what we can do about that collar that holds the two stocks together.
